    The Joint 31st International Conference on Infrared and Millimeter Waves and 14th International Conference on Terahertz Electronics (IRMMW-THz 2006) curtained up successfully in Shanghai on 18th,Sept, organized by Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics (SITP).

    The experts participated in the opening ceremony are: General Chairman Kenneth J. Button£»Honorary chairman: Mianheng Jiang(vice president of Chinese Academy of Science), and Shenggang Liu (CAS academician); Conference Chairman: Xuechu Shen (CAS academician); Program Chairman: Jie Zhang(CAS academician), and Professor Douwen Bin; and General Secretary: Wei Lu (Researcher), etc.

    Presided by Xuechu Shen (CAS academician), the opening ceremony enjoyed the opening speech made by Mianheng Jiang(vice president of Chinese Academy of Science) and the participation of more than four hundred deputies from tens of countries such as the US, UK, German, Russia, and Japan, etc., and hundreds of Chinese scientists and technicians. The Nobel Prize winner, Klaus von Klitzing also presented the conference.

    As the most authoritative meetings, the annual International Conference on Infrared and Millimeter Waves was firstly held in the US in 1974 and the International Conference on Terahertz Electronics was firstly held in German in 1993, which impacted significantly ever since. The combined conference of the two was recommended by the related scientists in 2004, which would enjoy a wider, larger and profounder international academic influence.
