Significant Progress in THz Communication Achieved by Shanghai Institute of Micro-system and Information Technology (Chinese Academy of Sciences)

    It is the first time for the THz research group led by Mr. Cao Juncheng to accomplish the presentation of wireless communication based on THzQCL and THzQWP in the National Key Lab of Communicative Functional Materials, Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology founded by CAS. The file has been successfully transmitted via the communicative system at a frequency of 4.1THz..

    THz wireless communication enjoys the advantages such as wide broad band and high security, therefore, THz wave band is potential to be another important frequency applied for communication after microwave and light wave communication. Due to its excellent time response and continuous emission, THzQCL is suitable to be used as the signal source of THz communication. Furthermore, with the fast detective response and high sensitive exploration, THzQWP is good and fast for THz wave detection. The semiconductor-based, solid THzQCL and THzQWP enjoy the highly effective performance, tightly compacted volume and easily accomplished integration.

    For recent years, the National Key Lab of Communicative Functional Materials has been dedicating its time and energy in the research and development of THz quanta parts, which has impact on the related fields at home and abroad to a certain degree. The successful presentation of THz wireless communication indicates that there is a core technology breakthrough in THzOCL and THzQWP communication, which has established a firm basis for the future development of THz wireless communication.2009Äê1ÔÂ11ÈÕ
