Newly founded Lytera UG, a spinoff of the Phillips University Marburg, says it is the first company in the market to offer a user-friendly software solution for terahertz spectroscopy. The company recently introduced the TeraLyzer Data Extraction Suite, which combines different algorithms to simultaneously extract the dielectric properties and the geometrical thickness of a sample.

Terahertz (THz) technology is steadily evolving from a scientific niche to a powerful sensing method. Terahertz waves penetrate clothes, paper, plastics, and many other optically opaque materials while not imposing the health risks of x-rays. Today, terahertz systems are already used for the detection of explosives and hazardous materials or as contact-free and non-destructive tool for the monitoring of industrial processes.

Lytera says its TeraLyzer software includes a thorough error-propagation model and can also be used to analyze multi-layer structures making it the ideal solution for research labs where a maximum of accuracy and a high degree of flexibility is required. Furthermore, the simultaneous thickness determination and the contact-free, non-destructive nature of terahertz spectroscopy also provide a huge potential for industrial applications, especially in the field process and quality control.

¡°THz waves provide us with a plethora of information about a sample. The TeraLyzer software extracts this information reliably with an easy-to-use interface. The implemented error propagation model and the possibility to analyze multi-layer-systems are particularly appealing from a scientific point of view.¡± says Professor Martin Koch, cofounder of the company. Lytera UG offers the software to end-users as well as to terahertz system distributors.
